About the Role

Nautilus is seeking a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and support embedded firmware and control software for data center critical infrastructure systems. The role spans microcontroller-based embedded systems and PLC-based control platforms, supporting power, cooling, monitoring, and safety functions across Nautilus platforms. The ideal candidate is comfortable working close to hardware, understands industrial reliability requirements, and can contribute across the full lifecycle from architecture and development through commissioning and field support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems used in power, cooling, and monitoring applications
  • Develop and support PLC-based control logic for infrastructure systems, including sequencing, interlocks, alarms, and fault handling
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and controls engineers to define system requirements and interfaces
  • Implement and support device and system-level communication protocols, including:
    • Modbus (TCP/RTU)
    • CAN / CANopen
    • Ethernet-based industrial protocols
    • Redfish for data center hardware management and telemetry
  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation of embedded systems
  • Develop and maintain documentation for firmware architecture, interfaces, and operating behavior
  • Support factory testing, site commissioning, and troubleshooting of deployed systems
  • Contribute to system reliability, fault tolerance, cybersecurity, and observability best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ yearsโ€™ experience in embedded firmware development and/or industrial controls
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience developing firmware for microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M or similar)
  • Experience with PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text, function block)
  • Familiarity with real-time systems, interrupts, timers, and hardware interfaces
  • Ability to work directly with schematics, datasheets, and hardware interfaces

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data center or mission-critical infrastructure systems
  • Familiarity with PLC platforms (Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, etc.)
  • Redfish-based management interfaces / data center telemetry systems experience
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (BACnet, EtherNet/IP, Profinet)
  • Exposure to RTOS or embedded Linux environments
  • Commissioning, field deployment, or operational support experience
  • Understanding of safety, redundancy, and high-availability system design
