About the Role

Nautilus is seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the company’s technology vision, execution, and scale-up strategy during its next phase of growth. This role will drive the evolution of Nautilus’ core cooling platforms, integrated infrastructure systems, and digital capabilities to support rapid commercialization and global deployment. 

The CTO will oversee engineering, product development, and technology operations, ensuring alignment between innovation, manufacturability, and customer deployment requirements. This leader will play a critical role in translating Series B investment into scalable, differentiated technology platforms that reinforce Nautilus’ leadership in sustainable data center infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities 

Technology Strategy & Platform Development 

  • Define and execute a multi-year technology roadmap aligned with Nautilus’ growth strategy and Series B objectives 
  • Advance Nautilus’ EcoCore platforms into scalable, modular, and globally deployable systems 
  • Drive integration across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software systems 
  • Ensure technology differentiation in performance, efficiency, sustainability, and cost 
  • Oversee solutions engineering team tasked with customer facing engagement 

Engineering Leadership & Execution 

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across hardware, controls, firmware, and systems engineering 
  • Establish scalable engineering processes, product lifecycle management, and design-for-manufacturing practices 
  • Build and mentor a high-performing technical organization aligned with rapid growth and innovation 

Productization & Commercial Scale 

  • Transition technologies from R&D into fully productized, manufacturable, and supportable solutions 
  • Partner with operations and supply chain to ensure readiness for volume production and global deployment 
  • Support customer-facing engineering efforts across data center developers, owners, operators, engineers/ architects, hyperscale and enterprise engagements 

Customer-Facing Sales Engineering & Market Engagement 

  • Lead and scale a customer-facing sales engineering function to support business development and revenue growth 
  • Partner closely with Sales, Business Development, and Executive Leadership to translate customer requirements into technical solutions 
  • Engage directly with key customers to communicate Nautilus’ technology value proposition 
  • Support technical diligence, RFP/RFI responses, and solution architecture for customer deployments 
  • Provide technical leadership in strategic deals, partnerships, and commercial negotiations 

Innovation & Emerging Technologies 

  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies in AI infrastructure, liquid cooling, and data center cooling systems 
  • Drive innovation in control systems, system observability, automation, and performance optimization 
  • Ensure Nautilus remains at the forefront of next-generation cooling technology 

Investment Alignment & Growth Enablement 

  • Align technology investments with Series B growth priorities, including market penetration and product scaling 
  • Support strategic partnerships, customer engagements, and investor communications 
  • Translate business objectives into executable engineering and product strategies 

Risk, Compliance & Governance 

  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards 
  • Identify and mitigate technical, operational, and scalability risks 
  • Establish governance for technology decisions, architecture, and platform evolution 

Job Details

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or related technical field (advanced degree preferred) 
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering or technology leadership roles, including executive-level responsibility 
  • Proven track record of scaling complex hardware/software systems in infrastructure, data centers, or industrial technology 
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, firmware, software) 
  • Demonstrated success in taking products from concept through commercialization and scale 
  • Strong understanding of data center infrastructure and cooling technologies 
  • Experience operating in high-growth environments, ideally post-funding scale (Series B or similar) 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making skills 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with liquid cooling, thermal systems, or mission-critical infrastructure 
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, embedded systems, and data center telemetry (e.g., Redfish, Modbus, CAN) 
  • Background in scaling hardware platforms with global manufacturing and deployment 
  • Experience direct engaging with sophisticated infrastructure customers 
  • Exposure to sustainability-focused infrastructure or energy-efficient systems

About the Role

Nautilus is seeking a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and support embedded firmware and control software for data center critical infrastructure systems. The role spans microcontroller-based embedded systems and PLC-based control platforms, supporting power, cooling, monitoring, and safety functions across Nautilus platforms. The ideal candidate is comfortable working close to hardware, understands industrial reliability requirements, and can contribute across the full lifecycle from architecture and development through commissioning and field support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems used in power, cooling, and monitoring applications
  • Develop and support PLC-based control logic for infrastructure systems, including sequencing, interlocks, alarms, and fault handling
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and controls engineers to define system requirements and interfaces
  • Implement and support device and system-level communication protocols, including:
    • Modbus (TCP/RTU)
    • CAN / CANopen
    • Ethernet-based industrial protocols
    • Redfish for data center hardware management and telemetry
  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation of embedded systems
  • Develop and maintain documentation for firmware architecture, interfaces, and operating behavior
  • Support factory testing, site commissioning, and troubleshooting of deployed systems
  • Contribute to system reliability, fault tolerance, cybersecurity, and observability best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in embedded firmware development and/or industrial controls
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience developing firmware for microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M or similar)
  • Experience with PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text, function block)
  • Familiarity with real-time systems, interrupts, timers, and hardware interfaces
  • Ability to work directly with schematics, datasheets, and hardware interfaces

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data center or mission-critical infrastructure systems
  • Familiarity with PLC platforms (Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, etc.)
  • Redfish-based management interfaces / data center telemetry systems experience
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (BACnet, EtherNet/IP, Profinet)
  • Exposure to RTOS or embedded Linux environments
  • Commissioning, field deployment, or operational support experience
  • Understanding of safety, redundancy, and high-availability system design
